What do you like better DS or PSP?

I am getting to like both because one has Mario, Zelda, and Metriod and the other has MGS, Ratchet and Clank, and more teen and mature games. I am thinking about getting a PSP so I can enjoy both the handhelds and watch movies on trips and stuff. Although the DS is more fun to play especially when you have friends to play the games with like Mario Kart and Call of Duty 4 (surprisingly it is a really good FPS on the DS if you have friends to play against, I recommend it but it lacks WiFi connection).

The PSP has got a lot of franchises that I enjoy on it, particularly Metal Gear Solid, which you mentioned. The new God of War game looks amazing, and it appears to have better system-to-portable connection that that GBA-GCN cable could even dream of.

But it just never took off the ground like the DS did. Third party developers really jumped on the bandwagon for innovative technology, and new gamers are loving it too. That's equaling sales. Despite the crap games that come out at unsuspecting parents who want to pick up something for their kid, the DS has some amazing franchises including Ace Attorney, Advance Wars, Contra, Elite Beat Agents, and Mega Man. Only one of those is owned by Nintendo - the others are all third party.
Then the DS has hard hitters like Metroid, Sonic, Mario, Zelda, etc. And it has them often.

The PSP has some great stuff, but the library doesn't compare. I think with the future of the PS3 there will be some interesting functionality, but I think developers are looking at it as a PS2 you can carry around. The graphics? Superb. Controls? Depends on the game. I think the control nub was a mistake. Sometimes the DS touchscreen is overused.

But the library solidifies it for me. Not one game has made me want the PSP enough to consider buying it.

PSP is getting more attention lately, but I kinda hope it just never pulls itself out of the slum it started in.

Honestly, what's the difference between a PSP and a PS2?  Slightly less 'horsepower' for one.  A little less storage-space on the disc.  A non-standard movie-disc format.  And on the plus side, it can run applications, it actually has built-in Wifi, and it's decently portable.

But other than that, it's nothing more than a slightly-less capable PS2.  They've even ported a few PSP games TO the PS2(with slightly lower resolution and polygon count for starters).  And the majority of its games are either watered down PS2 games, or sequels to those games, and a few spin-offs like the MGS card games.

What makes it a joke for me is the newly-included TV-out.  Yeah, Nintendo has had their Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player for GB-thru-GBA, but there's a difference between playing GB games on a system you own, and having to buy a mini-SNES in order to play new SNES games during the end of the SNES era and the beginning of the N64 era.  You just have to ask yourself 'why didn't they just release this game on the PS2?'  Sometimes they actually do...and given the right kind of PS3, you could skip both systems altogether and play PS1/PS2 games on that.

Sure, PSP is basically what Gameboy players always wanted: console-sized gaming on the go....but I think it came at a really bad time.  It's really not all that impressive....it's hardware, and it'll do its job of playing games just fine.  But we're kind of past that now.  Portable games don't have to be slightly underpowered console games, they can also have their own identity.  Which is what the DS has actually brought, while the PSP is just a visible/obvious extension of the PS2's lifespan.

And yeah, the final nail in the coffin for 'myself buying a PSP', would be the fact that there just isn't a game I'm truly desperate for that'd make me buy one.  I'm sure there are a few here or there that might be nice to have, like that whole Sega Genesis Collection(WHICH is also on the PS2, so if I already had one...no need for PSP there either), but nothing that the starting $250 or even the current $180 pricetag would be worth.

Typically I try not to assert too much of my opinion when I don't have first hand experience on something.

In this case, however, there's a good reason for that and I figure I'll go ahead and share my

There are some nice perks to having a PSP. Perhaps if I did a lot of traveling I might actually want one. The movie capabilities coupled with the gaming features it has might be worth the cost in that case.

For a regular person (who particularly dislikes traveling) a DS fits everything I need in a handheld. I want good games that I also have some type of sentimental attachment to. Nintendo has the rights to pretty much every game I'm interested in. One exception is Disgaea and maybe.. maybe some tales games as well. I can play those games on my PS2 though. Also I think those types of games are on their way to the DS/Wii.

PSP -

Better graphics
Able to access the internet with the built in web browser
Not that much fun games, the good ones so far are Final Fantasy Crisis Core, God of War.
Have wifi games
If dropped, there is a VERY HIGH chance the system would break/stop working

Alright graphics

Well, what handheld do I like better? The Nintendo DS. What one really is better? That's really up to the person's interest. I agree with Tai's list of pros and cons for the DS and PSP, for the most part.

The DS just has more games that appeal to me. I'm not big on being able to watch videos "on the go." If I want to watch a movie, TV episode, whatever other kind of media, I'll be sitting on the couch at home and relaxing. If I'm listening to music, I'll just use my MP3 player. I don't really want a PSP that could do those things for me.

For me, I like the innovation of the DS, even though some games are a bit too educational and anxious to use touch control just for fun. But I couldn't stand missing out on games like Mario Kart DS, Castlevania, Elite Beat Agents, Yoshi's Island DS, Tetris DS, Phoenix Wright, etc. So the DS is the better pick for me.

Hmm -- I'd go with the DS for me. For one thing, the PSP batteries cost way TOO much. Over $40 dollars if I remember correctly. Sure the games have better graphics and stuff, but there's no way in heck that I'd pay that much just for a replacement battery.

That's mainly what detracted me from the PSP for the most part, along with how fragile it supposedly is.

Thanks but no thanks, I prefer the Ds's sturdyness and less expensive battery .

PSP -

Better graphics
Able to access the internet with the built in web browser Still Wi-fi, inconvenient.
Not that much fun games, the good ones so far are Final Fantasy Crisis Core, God of War. NBA games, GTA, Burnout series, Socom.
Have wifi games
If dropped, there is a VERY HIGH chance the system would break/stop working High chance of having a scratched screen yes, but it may just get an error that can easily be fixed by turning it on and off. If you drop it from like, 5 feet is the same as dropping a DS.
Can download lots of games, like an R4, lot of emulators such as Playstation, N64, GBA.
Analog stick makes a lot of games easier, but because of it's size, make not work as well for some people.
DS-

Alright graphics Great 2d graphics, horrible 3d. Relies heavily on illusions (bump/textures).
Fun games such as Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters, Pokemons etc. DS has a lot of games that have waay more replay value than any PSP game.
More varieties of great games
Features wifi through NWFC
Awesome durability DS Lite buttons wear out way faster than the regular one.
Zelda Phantom Hourglass - yes
Flashcarts enable DS some functionalities like the PSP, such as watching movies, game downloads, image viewings and whatnot.
