Miyamoto has exprssed intrest in making a sequel and having some of the Power Ups that didn't make it in Galaxy be in the sequel. But how do you top Galaxy? Personally the only way is for some fresh, new ideas. Doing the whole gravity thing again would just be rehashing a great game and it wouldn't be the same. Leave all the Power Ups from Galaxy and themsome, and please get rid of the Purple Coin challanges. And a longer game.

Miyamoto works in mysterious ways.

He won't let the sequel be a rehash. We can be assured that.

I liked the Purple Coin Challenges...they were one of the few....challenging things in the game.

Really, I didn't exactly hate the whole planetoid gravity thing, but I really do want an SM64-esque environment.  Such as having a full area to go around as you please, and selecting a star/shine doesn't change the level so dramatically that it FORCES you to go one way and ONLY one way, like Galaxy does....that takes the exploration right out of it.

I'd definately like some more exploration though...something with a little more depth to it than just 'oh, I went behind the tree and found a star' or 'I went behind a cliff and found a 1-up'....something like the 'Nessie' area in SM64, Green Switch Palace, secret areas in the castle you didn't know about, heck, just the castle on its own would be cooler than 'this is a teleport room, point to where you want to go' sort of thing.

Galaxy was good, but it can be topped if only in filling in the gaps missing from Mario 64(and to some extent, Sunshine).  After that, sure, we could use some new powerups, or return of old ones like Leaf/Feather/Frog/etc.  Story-wise, yeah, everything after what happened in Galaxy is kind of a downer after THAT ending...but that shouldn't make it impossible.  I just want them to avoid 'vacation' though....they've been on vacation ever since Super Mario World, and they've seemingly never left off.   They ought to at least try doing the SMB3 idea where the Princess is safe, but the Kings of the land are not....or SMB2 where another land is in trouble, and a cast of characters are allowed to join in(kinda like SM64-DS).  OR, they could bother to allow Daisy into a mainstream game again, and possibly even be playable....that'd be great too.

I really liked galaxy, but I didn't really like the whole challenge of maneuvering with the spheres. I felt like overcoming and getting accustomed to the controls was as part of the challenge of the game as much as finding the last hidden purple coin etc.

I'd like something more like New Super Mario Bros but grander, bigger and on the Wii.

I really don't think there is an intent or a need to 'top' Galaxy. If you look back at the history of Mario games they don't really top one another, to me SMB is just as much fun to go back and play as SM64 or Sunshine (I've not played Galaxy). Mario games tend to evolve, dropping some things, changing some, and keeping others. I feel like every Mario game is great and I am sure that future Mario games will be just as fun to play as previous installments

Story, story, story, story, story, story, story, story, story, STORY!

That was my biggest disapointment with Galaxy. Yes, I know Mario is timeless and they're trying to appeal to everyone, but it really stinks coming from such big, well told, stories such as Bioshock, Psychonauts, the Paper Mario games, etc and having the story being almost non existent in this game. It's evolved in every way except that! I was hopeful, especially with the big grand entrance and the "Story times with momma" that they would be doing something different, but alas, it was the same o same o and I completely lost interest in the game by the time I got past the toy world.

....mmmnah, I don't care about story in a Mario game.  No, I'm not saying "You're Wrong", because this is just our opinions, but I'm just surprised to hear this being what Galaxy needed more of...let alone any Mario game.

I mean, sure, to the extent that Mario 64 had a 'story' going on, that much is fine, but even Galaxy I felt had a little bit too much story.  For that matter, I also think Sunshine had too much story...which I think came out worst, because it was all told in compressed FMVs that looked kinda 'bleh' in 480p.

I would almost care about story....but I know what they're going to do: kidnap 'someone', goad you on from level to level, and with Nintendo these days, definately NOT include or at least explain the absence of the Koopa Kids.  Even with detailing anything beyond those lines, it's essentially the same thing overall.  Really, there were some scenes in Galaxy that I felt just went on for way too long.  I play Mario games to play them...not watch them(I mean, that's what RPGs are for, right(zing)).  Add to that, stories are over once you finish them, and don't add a huge amount to any replay except for a few games(and sometimes story can actually get in the way of replay).

I'll say that New Super Mario Brothers needed more 'story'...but that's cheating because it's my least-liked "actual Mario" game at the moment.  At least the Koopa Kids added to the difference between boss battles occasionally....Bowser Jr. is just the same wuss every time(eh, I seem to remember that he might have had incrimental power upgrades from one to another, but I don't think they were significant or fun enough).

Honestly, I don't know how Galaxy can be topped. But then again, I'd probably be pleased if a sequel only had new levels...Since, Galaxy was the best game I've played since Ocarina of Time.

It's quite simple: Super Mario Sunshine 2.

But the first one was terrible, IMO...

I am sure they will come up with something even if it take about 10 years like it took to top/match Super Mario 64.

Me, I'm just interested in going back to the Mushroom Kingdom in the big new world of Wii capabilities.  I enjoyed Sunshine and loved Galaxy, but I've somewhat missed the land where super mushrooms and semi-sentient turtles originated.  Sure, at the end Galaxy lets you dink around there if you want, and believe me that was great for me, seeing that Nintendo had relatively left the design and placement of the castle relatively the same while adding new areas (something Zelda just can't seem to do effectively), but it'd be nice to be able to run around and fight more baddies and what not back where it started.

I have to agree with the story, while I'm not going to expect a literary masterpiece out of Mario it was pretty weak for Galaxy to have it's story unfold in a story book you didn't have to read.  It doesn't have to be Shakespeare, just cohesive and a part of what you're doing.  Basic motivation is enough for Super Mario.
