From what I'm seeing the good ol' people at Pokemon are afraid to really change anything up with a formula that sells games.
The pokemon mystery dungeon games are fun. They actually have an interesting story behind 'em.
It's too bad, some of my favorite Pokemon games are the ones that break tradition. Easily the prime example is Pokemon Snap, in my opinion the closest thing we ever got to a true 3D Pokemon game. While you didn't play trainer, you did get to actually immerse yourself into their real environment, none of the later "purification" stuff which to me was a MAJOR cop out.
yeah... i hate games that take place almost entirely in cities. x_X
If they really want to draw me in, make a true console Pokemon game that follows the story of Red. Go back to the classics and show us that world with the power of a 3D engine. Sure, let other Pokemon in, obviously fans would be upset if they only let in the first 151, namely the younger fans. Heck, why not show the characters journey through all of the major lands. What was it, Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh . . . might be missing the newest one, I'm not up on that.
It'd be fun... And you forgot Hoenne. ;P
That games been over due for years. Virtually every other Nintendo franchise has been able to translate it's core games into the 3D space. Why not Pokemon?
Because they're too busy milking the same cash cow formulas mostly?

I'm annoyed that the only online features Pokemon's got revolve around battling and trading. That's honestly the most annoying part of the games for me. I like exploring and catching stuff. How awesome would it be to allow players to group up and explore new areas together, stirring up wild pokemon and singling out the weak ones to battle and capture?
I'd also love it if they could incorporate some pokemon mystery dungeon-like battle system too.
