After trying out this download I figured I would post my honest opinion on it. This is mainly due to the fact that this is very different from any of the other WiiWare titles out there.

My Aquarium as you know is the latest title avalable for the WiiWare download service. Many people look at this and think it is not a good game at all. Well that would be true if you viewed this as just a game and nothing else. If I was to judge this download based on that aspect alone I would tend to agree it is not a really good game at all.

As far as being a game, My Aquarium is really only worth about 10-20 minutes in terms of real gameplay. First you set up your tank, then you put in some fish, then you feed them. That is it really, yes you can unlock other fish but more or less there is hardly any game here at all to speak of. While yes the fish themselves are rather detailed and everything looks nice, it really feels like you are playing a tech demo more than an actual game. So you can say as a game My Aquarium does fall rather short.

But in reality My Aquarium is more than just a game. It is also like an expanded version of one of those relaxation CDs you see in the stores. Therefore if you approach this download in that sense you can truly see that it is worth the 500 Wii Points.

Now why does My Aquarium make a good relaxation tool. Well for starters the music in this game is very similar to near identicle to the music you find in those relaxation CDs I mentiioned earlier. There is lots of Classical Piano pieces and all of them are very relaxing to listen too. Adding to that the overall atmosphere of an Aquarium provides an calm peaceful enviroment.

Another interesting bit of this is that if you let the Wii Remote turn itself off the game does not pause and ask you to reconnect the controller, rather it goes into a sort of video state with the camera going from fish to fish. One thing I have found that if you just lie back and let this download run for a while you will see it is a very relaxing experiance. I am sure that is one of the things the developers of it had in mind when they came up with the idea.

Overall this is one of those downloads that you need an open mind to truly understand and appreciate. As a game it may fall short. But if you treat this download as more than just a game you will see there is more to it than meets the eye. My Aquarium is a great example of how developers are using WiiWare to develop new and unique experiances in entertainment that have not been done before and I look forward to seeing what other unique ideas developers come up with in the future.

yes I agree, PM_nights...
definitely along the lines of that other game Forever Blue, i think it was called? A wii game where you scubadive and collect info on fish... once I came across a whale!!
However that one has a bit more depth cause you explore the ocean and find tons of crazy creatures... but it falls short on the 'gaming' aspect of it... Though it is very relaxing indeed!

If I had a kickass tv and sound system and wanted something relaxing- and loved fish I'd totally get it.

Especially for those long days at home when you're sick and miserable and a quiet house is really unpleasant. Fishy and classical music on the tv would be perfect.

it's like I've been laying around sick or something

i have a 100" projection screen attached to my wii. wonder how big the fish might look, and how over-sized they'd be?
