Okay, about a week ago I finally completed the main game. I swear, this game is flawless. Everything about it makes sense, there's very few things about it that will make you think "that's totally video-gamey right there", except for how gun ammo can be found in an ancient Spanish castle. I find that it's two games in one: the village and castle could be their own game, and the entire island could be its own. Right now I'm working my butt off in Mercenaries mode to unlock the HandCannon, and it's also a lot of fun.
Anyone else here play the game?

I've played it at least 10 times on the GCN, a few on the PS2, and now I'm working up to finishing it on the Wii. I must say, the Wii is the definitive version. Makes it a little easier, but I also feel like enemy health is higher. Either way, I still love it. I'm just at the giant Salazar statue now.

On my third playthrough right now, but it's not quite as interesting once you get the Chicago Typewriter, though that, of course, has its own rewards. But yeah, RE4 was one thrilling ride the whole way through, as were the Separate Ways missions (still haven't done assignment Ada yet). There are some things that I would have perhaps changed about the pacing of the game, but it lives up to its name.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games I've ever played, hands down. It was just so perfect in every way.
I hear the PS2 and Wii versions are good, but the PC one bombed. Oh, and an interesting fact - they're making a mobile version. Way to kill a great game, Capcom.

I saw that, it was pretty funny. The thing is it actually looked a lot like the game, with the great graphics and whatnot, except for one thing: the Ganados are blue. Crazy stuff, huh? Apparently Lost Planet is also on the phone, so Capcom seems to enjoy porting their games to mobile territory.

I called the Ganados "Gonads" for some time.
The only thing I didn't like about the game was the story about the little kids. *Shivers*

Play it? I've got both the GC and Wii version. I really love the game, one of my favorites. If nothing else, because it's a rare case where a publisher wipes the board clean with a franchise and goes "Ok, we really need to remake and rethink here." Having both Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy reinvent themselves in the past few years was simply fantastic.

I've played the GCN version, watched other people play the GCN version, and watched people play the Wii version. I can definitely see why people say it's such a great game.
That said, my times with the game have not lasted long and were more frustrating than anything. To begin, I'm not much of an FPS fan in general. If I remember correctly, the game has a unique control style of it's own, which was nice since I hate dual analog. That said, even though I hate it, I sorta expect or assume that FPS games will use it (and don't give me that nonsense about RE4 not being an FPS - the point is it's a shooter, even if it's told from the viewpoint of a guy holding a camera behind you as you blow stuff up). When they don't, it gets a bit confusing for a while.
I've never had significant amounts of play time with the game (and I'm also not into horror and I'm easily frightened - yes I'm a sissy, what did you expect from a moogle?). When I have played, I managed to get to the first town and do the whole kick the ladder down thing or whatever that was (been a while). Then always, and I mean always, the chainsaw guy gets me. I hate him and I can't kill him and that is where I get frustrated and my experience with RE4 comes to an end.
Yeah, needless to say, I think I'll stick with Metroid.

Well, actually it's a third-person perspective, but it does control basically like an FPS, sans the ability to strafe. But the controls are actually very much like the original games. It's the camera that makes all the difference with RE4. You still move like a tank, but the camera always remains behind you, so moving is made a lot more natural than in previous RE titles.

I always had that annoying experience in the village. It's always got me and it's really annoying. Personally, I absolutely hate the village parts, and I hate the villagers. Did you ever get the shotgun? Always use that on the chainsaw guy, and in time he'll finally die. As soon as that's over it gets easier, believe me. And hey, there aren't too many scary moments; most of them are more like moments you would see in an action movie. There's only three parts in the game that really freak me out, but besides those it's not as much of a horror game as people make it to be.
