Should I get it? If I do, who'll help me get into the groove? What kind of money do I need to spend on a computer that will work for it? How much does the game cost? What's the monthly?

(this would all be months down the road FYI)

I've heard horror stories about people getting into WoW, and NEVER EMERGING.  But those people have had naturally clingy personalities.  I've never gotten into WoW, but from what I've heard, if you can find a group of people to play with, it's a really fun experience.

I would probably only make and level one character if I got into WoW, and it honestly never appealed to me.  (I'm more of a Starcraft guy).

Heh, yea. I know people who behave that way- with the addicted to WoW thing. It's quite unhealthy. That's one of the reasons I've not gotten the game yet. I'm more of a Disgaea girl myself. can't wait for the new one!!!

Unless you have a lot of free time on your hands, or several friends who are into it, I can't really recommend it.  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the game, however that's due to me having soo much free time on my hands. Had I had a job, college, and possible family to deal with (like most people my age should), I probably wouldn't play it.

I don't think you need to spend a lot of cash upgrading to it, the most you might need is some ram and a new video card depending on your PC. The cost of entry though, is a bit up there. 19.99 for the orginal game and about 15 bucks a month. If you want access to two of the races you'll need to pick up the 30 dollar expansion pack.

So yeah, unless you have a crap load of time on your hands or a lot of friends who play, even as a person who plays the game frequently I can't really recommend it.

And BAH!@ Disgaea 3 coming to PS3. It doesn't even look like it fully uses the whole "Next gen" power.

Thanks for your advice Pritty.

Yea, I spoke with Alex about Disgaea 3 and it's graphics and such.. He still thinks it might be possible for them to port it to other systems like the Wii- because of the graphics.

lol  I played it once, and wasnt too impressed.  It does seem like one of those "everyone you know better be playin it otherwise it wont be fun" type things.

Maybe, hopefully, we'll see a Wii port. Considering the popularity of the system over there, and the ease of developing for other then getting use to the "Waggle" controls. Just give us Wiimote unit selection and I'll be happy as pie! It's not like it's going to break the Wii with it's ground breaking graphics or anything, unless they're hiding something. Maybe they're still under the mentality that the Sony platform is still the best for RPGs.

I have mixed feelings about WoW.. It's kinda fun.. sometimes.. but I feel like an uber-nerd when I'm logged on. There's only one person that i actually know on my server, and if he's on then we'll run amuck together. Otherwise I go solo.. kinda silly playing an MMO game and spending most of your time going around questing and grinding by yourself..but I'm weird like that. Sometimes I'll give my 2 cents in a chat channel or say something like "want to sell flaccid cock of the donkey- 3 gold" to try and elicit a chuckle but that usually just ends up pissing people off. WoW is extremely addicting, though lately I've only done a few hours a week. At one point I lost my job partly because i stayed up waaay too late playing for like a week and would stumble in to work an hour late. But now I'm slightly more responsible and WoW has lost most of its appeal to me. Here's my main character, Shidassky. He is a lvl. 50 rogue nicknamed the cuisinart because he slices and dices and kills thing quite efficiently. Being a rogue he can turn invisible and sneak around and pick pockets and fun stuff like that.

Then there's my "other" character, Shmama. She is a lvl. 25 shaman who is surprisingly strong. She can turn into a ghost wolf to move faster and can create all sorts of totems to do nifty things like increase the armor points of anyone standing nearby. When i use her in a dungeon with a group I get bitched at for killing things too quickly and recklessly, people think shamans are only supposed to heal or something, I dunno. She is also useful for a reason that will surely make you roffle.. I sometimes will convince a gullible dude that I am a hot young chick without a boyfriend and before you know it they are giving me all sorts of gold and rare items, which i promptly mail to my main character. >

so that's my experience with WoW. I havent got a super powerful level 70 character, and I probably never will tbh. To me it's a lot like playing "the sims" and after an hour or so of playing i think to myself "whats the frickin point of this nonsense?!?"
You might like it, but i gotta agree w/ cass- Unless you know at least a few people on it who can kind of show you the ropes and whatnot, there are tons of other games that will be time better spent.

I play WoW. I've got alliance characters on Windrunner and Moon Guard (an RP server where you have to be "in character" when you say things) and Horde characters on Shu'halo (my highest level character is there) and Frostmane (a PVP server, meaning you can be attacked by the other faction at any time). I've spent most of my time on Moon Guard lately, since the people there seem a lot more mature (no Chuck Norris jokes or other crap spamming up general chat).

Many people I know have quit recently. The guy who got me started on this game suspended his account and two of my brother's friends are quitting completely. I think my dad still plays at least, but I haven't been playing on Frostmane that much recently. Heck, I don't even think he knows I made a character on Moon Guard.

The game is not bad, but I don't get why you would want to get it. A good gaming computer requires at least graphic card, 1GB RAM, processor so your computer won't asplode the Cds.

I love this thread.

I started playing WoW back in February of this year and in about 5 minutes I'm going to play WoW again.

The game is seriously addicting and will probably change your lifestyle drastically. You may find yourself up until 6am swimming from Menethil to Westfall just because you can (people who play might know how long that could take; but I'm probably one of the few people stupid enough to actually do it...multiple times). My point being, there's just so much stuff to do. Why couldn't Twilight Princess's world be this big? Even if you choose to screw all the quests just wandering around and discovering stuff is fun.

So, my opinion? Yes, buy it. There's a new expansion on the way too (and it looks freaking awesome - wow it feels weird to actually be allowed to say freaking on a forum after 4 years).

As for specifics. The game is $15 a month. If you buy the actual game and don't pick up the $5 demo (which is essentially the entire game with trade, general chat, and lv21+ disabled) you'll get a month "free" (notice how the non-demo comes with a month free with an added cost that is unusually similar to the price of a month of playing).

If you're really smart (like me ) you'll find a friend who has a demo to give away (they package them with every copy) and get your 2 week free trial. During that time, you can learn how to play and get your character to lv 20 and not be forced to talk about Chuck Norris in Barren's Chat. After the 14 day trial, then you activate your real copy of the game to get a month free. So, for $20 and the cost of finding a good friend, you can get a whopping 44 days for "free".

As for helping you out, you make a character on Moonrunner and I'll help you until you want me to go leave you alone forever. My character is currently a lv 60 Night Elf Druid (hopefully 61 before the end of the day ) and I was very creative when I named him. You'll never guess, so I'll just tell you. I named him "Yumil".

Swimming from Menethil to Westfall? Where exactly is Menethil anyway? I've been to Westfall at least... I guess there's no uber deep water for your character to get fatigued in then?

I made the swim a few days ago.. gawd what a waste of time.. it took more than an hour and you get to a point where you have to stick to cliff walls  so as not to get fatigued. At least when I got to westfall i could pester alliance peeps to my heart's content. I love ambushing the youngun's for the heck of it.

LOL -- Yeah, same here. I've been playing WC3: TFT for the last four years, and when WoW came around I told myself no. I was already spending too much time with WC3, so I can only imagine how bad the allure to WoW would be. I love games, but I don't want anything that takes me too far from what I actually need to get done in real life.

Well, here's a map for you. (Hopefully it's not too big. I tried to make it smaller. If it is too big, I'll resize it later).

And yes, you do have to stick to the cliffs in order to stay out of fatigue water. Nowadays, I occasionally make the swim just for the heck of it. There is actually one house out there that you can't find any other way. It may be an incomplete area of the game that Blizzard might include later.

Originally, I made the swim as a last resort. It was my first time on the Eastern continent and I really, really, really needed/wanted to get to Ironforge. No one would tell me how. I walked by low level character all through Wetlands (dying tons of times of course) and even found Dun Modr (the gateway that I needed to take). However, I high level guy told me that wasn't the way to anything except ogres - and there are some elite orgres in there - so I believed him and turned back around. Finally, I opened up the map and started looking. Dun Morogh (where Ironforge is) is completely surrounded by impassible mountains. However, I decided to give it a shot anyway.

After getting killed probably 30 times by murlocs just outside Menethil, I made it to a safe area and started swimming. In addition, I constantly tried to climb over the mountains hoping to find a way in. Of course I never did. After passing Dun Morogh I looked at the map again and noticed that the nearest place with no mountains was Westfall. So, I swam there and thank God it worked. I made it after a few hours and got killed by more murlocs. Then I asked a guy where the nearest town was, ended up in Stormwind, and took a tram to Ironforge.

Then, realizing it was 6am, I went to bed and missed all my classes the next morning.

EDIT: For the WoW-map familiar, I also swam from Auberdine in Darkshore to the northern side of Azshara. My original goal was to swim around all of Kalimdor. I still intend to do that sometime. I only stopped because someone requested that I run an instance with them.
