has begun development. Debating many ideas and colour schemes. Here are a few we have so far. Bear in mind these are only base colours so far. Gradients and such will be added in later (they're image based, this is just stylesheet/CSS/HTML based right now).

First attempt..trying to make it match with the homepage. Didn't work very well, and I suck at doing stuff like this by myself...
omg!!

So MAGNUS stepped in with a suggestion, and made it look watermelon-y.. hehe
(first [22/11/07], second [23/11/07])
watermelon magnus-watermelon2

Cass's attempt follows. Quite liking the background, however I'm still not too sure on the header. I prefer the second, however.

Thyme's blue theme: [23/11/07]

(I actually kinda like this one somewhat).

Yumil's blue theme: [25/11/07]
yumil1

I'll update this thread when things change and there's more selection for the debating of!

If you want to submit your own colour schemes for trying out, reply here and use this format (example uses the original ghastly version):

C1: #FBA534 (Orange)
C2: #E3912E (Darker orange)
C3: #379527 (Green)
C4: #A790AA (Purple)
C5: #75ABAD (Blueish)

These codes I've marked out in the stylesheet for easy locating for me when it comes to trying new schemes! I hope they make sense though, since I pointed out the colours they correspond to as well

For the 'watermelon' one, I was thinking of reversing a few colors....actually, in a similar way that Cass's was switched:

(original)
Orange: Light green: #33AA49
Darker orange: Dark Green: #155E23
Green: Dark magenta: #3B272B
Purple: Dark Pink: #AB3040
Blue: Light Pink: #F696A3

(modified)
Orange: Light green: #155E23
Darker orange: Dark Green: #33AA49
Green: Dark magenta: #3B272B
Purple: Dark Pink: #F696A3
Blue: Light Pink: #AB3040

All I did was swap a few tho'.

I do like Cass's first one, but the second one does look better, just too bright for my eyes.

I should do another one that uses just two or three of the front page's colors.... sometime anyway... >_>;

I like Cass's second one.
I'm a fan of lighter colors.

Erf, I don't think the watermelon theme's gonna work out...even the reversed colors are too PINK.  x_x;  I just wanted something that would use a few of the same colors so it doesn't look too different from the front page(just in case that mattered), but wasn't too bright on the eyes, but wasn't too drab.  :p  I'll think up some other codes some other time..

I gave it a shot. Here's what I got:

C1: #006699
C2: #666699 (not so sure about this one; on the screenshot I only see one spot where it is actually used)
C3: #333366
C4: #6699cc
C5: #336699

There's my take. While I realize it isn't really neccessary anymore, I picked all web-safe colors. I'm just familiar with them and it's easy to put together color schemes with them.

I wasn't entirely sure how to handle the "darker orange". It only appears one time in the screenshots and I'm not so sure it needs to be a different color at all.

I like yumil's too!

Is it easy to make it so we have a bunch to select from?

it's do-able yes. bear in mind though that these are only base colours. there's no images in place yet, but i suppose once there's a psd in existance for all the images we use (collapse/shrink, (no) new posts, etc..), then changing the colour should be pretty easy..

I've got no idea how this works. Sounds like paint by numbers. I happen to like Yumil's theme the best, with Cass's second try in... well, close second.

I think something more plain will suit us well. Hell, I'd go as far as possibly incorporating gray into it. We'll see what happens.

Well Wind Waker, here's how it works. When you're coding for the 'Net you usually cannot just type the name of a color you want. Simple colors like red or black or blue work (but not reccommended) but something like light navy blue will not nor will hot pink. Colors are represented by Hex codes, 6 character codes. You can have any combination of 0-9, a-f. Six f's (#ffffff) is white and six 0's (#000000) is black.

It's all built on RGB. The first two characters are the amount of Red, then Green, and Blue. So, red is #ff0000, green is #00ff00, and blue is #0000ff. So basically, you're just mixing colors to get what you want. Using Photoshop (or something similar) makes picking colors a lot easier.

Back in the early days of the Internet, not all computers/web browsers could show all the millions of color combinations. So, we had a set of 256 "web safe" colors. Those are really easy to play with because they all consist of groups of 00, 33, 66, 99, cc, & ff.

Once you've been playing with colors like this for a long time, it's hard to think of them any other way (working in CMYK is really hard for me). For example, one of my favorite colors is #336699. Couldn't tell you what else to call it, but it's a pretty shade of blue.

Yumil - you lost me once you got past the basic HTML in the first paragraph. Thanks for trying, though!

I don't have Photoshop. Closest thing I've got is paint!
