So, in the interest of having more topics here, I thought I'd create this one. Plus, as always, I like talking about games, and I'm always playing something, so, it's a good mix.
This topic is to discuss whatever Legacy game one is currently playing. Obviously people are free to create individual topics for games they're playing as well, the more topics the merrier, but, if one just wants to share a bit and doesn't want to create a topic for it, they can post about it in here too.
-------
Anyway, to cover my past couple of weeks. I started playing Soul Blazer for SNES a bit ago. I'd had it for a while, had been recommended to me on NSider a number of times and eventually picked it up but then didn't really get around to playing it. So, I finally decided to do something about that. I'm about half-way through it, and it's a very fun game.
Then, I had the random urge to try playing through Majora's Mask. Me and Majora's Mask have kind of a "Dislike/Dislike but kind of want to at least beat it anyway" relationship. It seems like a fun game, but, I just really hate the "timer" system that the moon causes. Even with the song to speed up time, I just don't like being rushed around. I would like to at least finish it up once though. So, I set out on an attempt to do that again a bit ago. I got through the first two temples, which I think is right around where I stopped when I'd tried once or twice before to get through it. Maybe this time I'll actually finish it up.
Then, I got distracted a bit when I went out and got some new games recently, and spent a bit of time playing Bubble Bobble for NES. I doubt I've ever, or will ever, beat it, but, it's a fun game just to play around in.
Then, today, I had the random urge to beat The Goonies II for NES. I may have beaten it at some point or another, but, if I have, long enough ago where I really didn't remember it. So, I sat down today and beat it. It's a very fun game.
So, with that done, I really should get back to trying to finish off Majora's Mask. This semester of college is coming to a close next week, so things are a bit busy right now, but, hopefully after that I should have a bit more free time. On the other hand, my birthday is on the 12th and I'll be getting some new games then. So, I may end up getting side-tracked by some of those as well. We'll see.
So, that's what I've been playing recently. Feel free to comment on any of that, share what you've been playing, or whatever.

@.@
I came back into the gaming realm somewhere through the GC's lifespan. 2002. Previous to that the last game I had played was SMB3 for the NES.
Sadly I don't really know anything about any of the games you mentioned...
I just finished Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for my first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm considering playing through it again soon- and doing so on hard mode.

Hey, that's alright. No matter when one started, all the old games are still there, and just as fun as ever, just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. Of course, even if one doesn't want to discover them, that's alright, they're still there anyway If you, or anyone else, is curious to know more about any of the games I mention though, please just ask and I'll be more than happy to talk more about any of them. I'd mentioned in some of the other Fire Emblem topics as well, but, as of right now, the only game in the Fire Emblem series I've had a chance to play is the first one for GBA (which, I guess, is the 7th in the series). I've been meaning to check out some of the others (including Path of Radiance), but, to this point, haven't had the chance yet. They all look like fun games though.

Ahhhh yes, Majora's Mask....it's funny, I have the same feeling towards it. I've played it different times, mostly when I used to have the collection disc for GCN, but I got tired of it and took it back one day... *shrug* I think it's an interesting game, and the "real time" and real-lives thing is cool, but yeah....there are certain time-sensitive things that make me hate it. That and the dungeons can be hard as crap, and not very interesting to look at honestly. They have the same vibe as the bonus levels in Mario Sunshine: they're interesting and HARD, but they don't make a whole lot of functional-sense. I love the Ranch tho'. Absolute favorite area in the game....and that poor guy surrounded by baby chicks(you'd like him Hen). And of course the Romani sisters. I'd almost buy the game just for the Ranch, EXCEPT for that very reason that you can't just get to it...and I'm not even sure if you can get to it easier after opening it the first time...maybe, I can't remember if there's a statue there or not. Lot of good characters in it too. I know there are some that are stereotyped, but it seems like they have a lot more character and 'life' to them than most did at that time. Anyway. I don't know if Gamecube games count as legacy by now( I mean they almost should ), but for WHATEVER reason, I suddenly threw in Sonic Adventure DX last Weekend, and I've worked my way through that, through SA2:B, and now I'm half way through Sonic Heros, and thennnn it'll be off towards Shadow. I should have started with the collections if I was gonna do them ALL in order, but those take a rediculously long time to unlock certain games, and I can barely stand to play Sonic Gems honestly. Shadow the Hedgehog will of course be the most annoying to play through(IF I don't replay Sonic Riders), but unlike how most people feel, I don't think it's because of the whole game, but just that some levels have an annoying 'fetch quest' to them that are sometimes impossible. Y'see I lost a huge amount of game-saves due to my 1019 card corrupting when I used it with the Wii(some other people reported having the same problem), and the game saves that DIDN'T corrupt eventually did anyway, so I pretty much had to start over on everything. I used that time to finish up MP2 before MP3 released, and Sunshine before SMG released, and now I guess I'm just sort of gravitating towards doing the Sonic games again. I'm thinking about doing a sort of quick-review for each game, because honestly, each game has its good points that I actually love....and bad points I absolutely hate, and yet they don't quite break the game entirely I guess. But well, that's all the retro gaming I've done aside from a few Virtual Console games, of course. I've almost finished through SMB3 for my first VC run-through, and I've actually yet to bother beating SMW actually. I've actually got loads I haven't beaten, some cuz I found out I hate them, and some cuz they're just that hard(and some because I'm bored with them).

There's a statue on Milk Road, but that's outside of the bolder, so, any time one wants to get in, one still has to do the "Become a Goron, go get the big bomb thing, bring it back there and blow up the rock" thing (or wait until the 3rd day when the guy breaks the rock). At least, I hadn't figured out an easier way to do it. Just finished up the alien thing there a bit ago, and was a pain since it took me a few tries, and I had to keep running around beforehand.
I think I'd enjoy the game much more if I had the chance to just run around and explore and stuff randomly, like I enjoy doing. Unfortunately, with that moon there, I never feel like I can do that. It would be nice if, after you beat the game, there was a "Play through the game without that annoying moon there" mode. Sure, it would make the storyline not make sense, but, oh well.
In any event, yeah, at the old NSider Gamecube wasn't considered Legacy yet, but here, we don't have a GCN board anyway, and, I'm certainly not going to drive anyone away who wants to talk about games.
I have SA2:B, but, don't believe I ever got around to going through the whole thing. The "regular" parts are fun, but those annoying "gem collection" (or whatever it is) parts just really broke up the game too much for me. Have the regular Sonic Adventure for DC, and it's a pretty fun game. DX looks fun as well, might check it out one of these days. Got Sonic Gems Collection a bit ago, but, haven't had a chance to spend too much time with it yet. I really should though, since I'd missed out on a number of those games originally. Haven't really checked into any of the other newer Sonic games for GCN. They look interesting, but, not really high up on my list of things to do.
Sorry about your save files, that's no fun.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is a very fun game, as is Super Mario World, especially with a second player (haven't played the VC versions, I would assume they still have multiplayer in them). I enjoyed the endings for both of the games as well. Hope you get the chance to finish them off sometime.

For the record, I consider anything that isn't currently being sold/produced new to be 'legacy'. I believe the GC fits into that category.

Wellll, I wasn't going to make a big deal of whether GCN was legacy or not, but thanks. Yeah, I just finished SMB3....kind of irks me because I didn't think I'd beat it the first run-through the castle, I just wanted to familiarize myself with the layout before breaking out a Hammer Brothers suit ... but I beat him, and all the items I still had are gone now. Oh well, was cool tho'. SA:DX is ... weird. In some ways it's much better than the Dreamcast version(if only because of the better GBA-to-GCN link(if I still had those to mess with it), but the thing they tried to improve the most - the frame rate - instead of staying at a solid 30fps, it tries to maintain 60(which looks great), but it CONSTANTLY stutters down to 30 and 45, so it almost doesn't make any sense. For SA2:B, I don't mind the hunter stages TOO much, but I definately enjoy the shooter stages. The 'regular' stages are good, but they're over quickly, and some of Shadow's stages are .. buggy. Sonic Gems bugs me. The arcade game is over too fast and isn't very good as far as fighting games go...it's sort of a novelty. Sonic R is good, but the players are HEAVILY unbalanced(once you get Super Sonic, there's no reason to play as anyone else, and playing as Amy is just outright slow), and it's over too quickly too. Sonic CD I kind of like, but the tasks to get the good ending are way too tedious and annoying...and if you miss them, you just about have to start all over. And to top that off, the ending isn't all that spectacular either. The remaining Game Gear games are ... the usual Game Gear quality, and not tooooo interesting. And for some reason I never liked Vectorman, so even both of those unlockables are lost on me. Sooooo unfortunately, Sonic Gems is kind of in my little 'I collect Sonic Games, so I can't get rid of it' group. :p Sonic Riders comes close to being there right along with it. I'd suggest only getting Shadow if it were like 5 or 10 bucks or something. -I- like it, but I'm probably the only one who can stand it...although personally I love the fact that rail-grinding is finally trustworthy, and almost not-buggy at all.

Well, I don't know about the system itself (I would imagine production of new ones of that are done), but, I believe a few new GCN games are still due to be released. Obviously, though, at this point most everyone has moved onto the Wii. Anyway though, this is Hen's board, so her say is final Congrats on beating SMB3. I don't know how the VC version works, but, in the NES one, Again though, don't know how the VC version handles that. I still have my GCN/GBA link (have 3 of them actually), and, I personally really like it. I thought it was fun getting to use it in SA2:B. Didn't know DX included an option for it as well, so, that's nifty. I used to have a Game Gear (it was actually my first portable system, got one even before getting an original Gameboy), but, unfortunately, it broke a number of years back (dropped it, and 2/3 of the screen is permanently grayed out. It still "works," just, I can only see what's going on in 1/3 of the screen). I had one or two Sonic games for it, and enjoyed them a decent amount. Haven't had a chance to play around with them on Gems yet, I should do that. Vectorman, I actually kind of like that game (not spectacular or anything, but a fun one anyway), but, I have that on Sega Smash Pack for Dreamcast already. Kind of want to get the Genesis version one of these days (they actually had it at the store when I bought my latest selection of new games, but, I passed over it in favor of other stuff), but, who knows.

Still working away at Majora's Mask. Just finished up the 3rd palace Further now than I've ever gotten before (not sure I'd even gotten to the 3rd palace before). Maybe this time I'll finally beat it.
A couple of days ago I also had the urge to play some Faxanadu for NES. It's one of my favorite games, and one I enjoy very much. So, started in on that again. Played it for a bit, then got a password and stopped. The next day, came back to continue playing, and apparently I'd written down the password wrong and it won't work, so, back to the start now. If there's one thing I'm happy has changed over the years, it's battery/memory card saves in place of passwords. I dislike password saves, and, Faxanadu's always been one of the more problematic (long passwords, letters looking similar, etc.) Ah well.
I hadn't gotten too far into it, it's not like I'd lost a bunch of time or anything (I tend to get passwords often and save them as I'm going along, that way if something like that happens I don't get set too far back). Obviously I can always start again. I should keep working at Majora's Mask though. I have a bad habit of getting sidetracked.

I don't remember Faxanadu too well .. was that the game that was on a 3/4 isometric view, sort of a puzzler, jumping around on platforms ... or was that something like Solaris?
Closest I have to that game might be something like Solomon's Key, which I got off the Wii VC. I heard it was a challenging game, but I didn't know it was going to be 'frustratingly challenging'. Oh well.
I haven't been doing much this week, just trudging through Sonic Heros, sort of wanting to play other games, but knowing that if I put this off, I'll never finish.
OH, I also recorded two levels of Ecco the Dolphin for Dreamcast. Debating on whether I should upload them to Youtube or not, and if so, if I should actually narrate some dialogue or not. I'm thinking not, probably, but I have a feeling the levels might be boring without it. *shrug* Dunno if I'll actually finish the whole game through recording either, but who knows.

I'll never stop playing SMB3. And now that I can play it on VC and I don't have to worry about my NESs completely dying on me in the future though it'll suck if they finally do but yeah, NES version all summer every summer(and winter break too), gba version during school year, and VC once I get some wiipoints :p otherwise, I still play the gamegear every once in a while. We have a lot of games for it but I mainly just play the sonic games, ristar, garfield, and lion king. SEEEEEEGAAAAAAA

Oooh, I loved the Genesis Garfield game. Best use of cartoon license back then...excellent animation, level design(for the most part), and the level themes and music were all pretty good. Although the levels past the first were pretty hard, and not always as good looking as the first, but it was actually a worthwhile game even though it was a 'cartoon game'. I never played the GG version however.
Same for the Lion King Genesis/SNES(as in I liked them, but never played the GG version), although it got a bit hard just past level 1(I hate those ostriches and monkeys).

Nope, it pretty much looks and controls like a standard platformer, although with some RPG elements mixed in, such as gold, experience, towns and people and such. Here are a couple of pictures: Closest I have to that game might be something like Solomon's Key, which I got off the Wii VC. I heard it was a challenging game, but I didn't know it was going to be 'frustratingly challenging'. Oh well.
I've been thinking of checking out that game for a while. It looks interesting. Of course, when I do, I'd get it for NES, considering one can buy the NES version on eBay, including shipping, for less than it would cost on the VC, but nonetheless. OH, I also recorded two levels of Ecco the Dolphin for Dreamcast. Debating on whether I should upload them to Youtube or not, and if so, if I should actually narrate some dialogue or not. Nifty. I'd be interested in seeing that. That's another game I've been wanting to check out for a while. Have the Genesis Ecco game and enjoy it very much, and I'd imagine I'd enjoy the Dreamcast version as well. As far as narration, I always have my computer speakers off (don't even know why I bother keeping the speakers on the desk, I never use them), so, I wouldn't notice either way.

I have the GBA version of that as well, and, it's nifty to be able to take it on the go. I have to say though, my favorite version of the game is the one included on Mario All-Stars for SNES. Features regular saving as well, and, I just like the look and design of everything in it. Same with with SMB2 in Mario All-Stars, I really like the backgrounds and everything they added to the game in there. otherwise, I still play the gamegear every once in a while. I've been thinking of getting a Game Gear again one of these days. During the short period I had it, there were a couple of games for it that I enjoyed very much, and, it'd be fun to play them again. Don't know how the GG version of Lion King compares to the Genesis version, but, I have the Genesis version of that, and, it's definitely a great game.

So, in other news, I finally beat Majora's Mask. Only took 7 years or so On the bright side, I actually managed to avoid most of the spoilers for the game until I beat it, so, that was an accomplishment. It was an alright game. As I said all along, I would've enjoyed it much more if there was a way to play without the "moon-imposed time limit" and having to reset almost everything numerous times. As the game went along, that just got more and more annoying. Still, I finally stuck it out and beat it this time. I'm happy I at least got it taken care of and out of the way. As I said, it was alright. Aside from the time limit, I did have a few other issues with the game where, even if it weren't for the time limit (although it's rather hard to separate the rest of the game from that since they're so intertwined), it would still likely be at the bottom as far as my favorite Zelda games go (at least of the ones I've played. Haven't played the CD-i ones), and not in my overall Top 200. Sure, it's a better game than some, it's not like it's "horrible" or anything, but, compared to what I had hoped for it coming in (again, all this 7 years or so ago), I'm still rather disappointed with how it turned out. Ah well. Now that that's taken care of, I'm a bit more caught up with the Zelda series in general. Still have to work on Twilight Princess (only like 4 temple things in including the ones at the beginning, and been a bit since I've played it), and haven't played Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass at all. Still, as I said, at least I finally beat Majora's Mask. So, that's something.
