Looking at the new design of the Nintendo website it just doesn't feel the same anymore. It is no longer geared toward the gamers but more as a HUGE infomercial. It's too cutesy and has WAY to many flash websites attached. Not only that, but there is a LOT of things missing that the old design had. What do you guys think about the redesign? If it's being set up more for "other" people rather then the gamers is this any indication as to how the new forum is going to be? Has Nintendo stopped caring about the old hardcore fans?

Yeah, I don't care for it either really.  Would have preferred the old one with the old forum.  True, the old website was just as 'detached' as this one is, but it at least had the forums.

New forums.....I still doubt happening.  Would be nice, and definately appreciated, but really I dunno.

See I don't feel the old site was detached and forum or no forum the old site was still better.  It was a LOT more informative and that's what I really liked about it.  I liked the list of games and the search engine for it.  I used that a LOT when I was looking for a new game to buy.

Well, when I said detached, I just meant that the navigation wasn't always consistant, and usually clicking on any game sites or shop.nintendo.com would open a new tab/window.  It was definately better than the new one, but visually it was over-complex and not very clean looking.  Now we have a clean-looking site, but like ya said, there's almost nothing there.

Myself, I only used Nintendo to add new 1st Party games to my Game List so I could get any of the meager rewards they sometimes had, or the rare purchases/subscriptions from Nintendo's online store.  And the forums of course.  I usually use IGN or recently GoNintendo to keep up on new games and release dates and such.  *shrug*

But yah, I agree that the old site was a little better.  I wonder who heads the internet-depeartment out at Nintendo now...and whether that's from the new offices in California, or the new offices in New York(are they even complete yet?)...

I personally hate the new look, its stupid, and its a nightmare trying to get to somewhere with ANY relevant information. The remodel of the site seems so pointless, the purpose of the site was to inform people, and you can hardly get anything out of that site. Who knows what will happen next. At this point, I've decided to just stop caring.

I don't ever go there, so I shouldn't be worried about the new look. Thats that.

Nintendo seems to be catering more so towards the causal market audience, as evident by their new site.

Don't really mind the new look of their site, the only problem I have is the long load time to display content.

I like how they kept the two separate categories for the Wii/DS games and providing enough details of the specific game.

Can't seem to find the free downloads of when you register a game, guess they took away it.

And one more thing to say, the coloring of only grey looks a bit bland.

I guess it's this sort of "treat everyone the same" feeling that's bugging me.  I'm all for making games that everyone can play, but when they take away a lot of the focus they had on the gaming crowd and use it in a far less, I don't know, maybe specific way it feels like betrayl.  Instead of allowing the community that's FAR more likely to use their site to be given what info and interaction it needs they make this site with a sort of general attitude for everyone.  I'm all for making it easier for newcomers to get into games, but it feels like instead of them getting into games Nintendo is gettting into making THEIR kind of games and THEIR sort of casual attention to them.

I kind of like it, kind of don't. I guess I'm a bit neutral on it. It definitely seems like the "playable for everyone" vibe is definitely what they are going after. However, I hope that's the not the only vibe they are going to go after, as TTL mentioned.

As for the site itself, I think it looks okay. It definitely has the same look and feel as wii.nintendo.com. Of course, "thanks to the success of the Wii and DS" (as the message at the NSider forums says), I guess that's not too much of a surprise. There are slow loading times, which is annoying, but maybe tweaks are still being made to the site and that will go away soon. Or maybe it's just too Flash on it. I don't know.

What I do HATE about the site is the fact anything prior to Wii and DS isn't there, which was touched on in this thread too. I can understand maybe not having everything available for the legacy games, but just a screenshot of the box and a small description goes a long way. After all, there are still many people who collect legacy games, regardless if it's available on VC or not. I'm one of them. I guess we are supposed to feel free to make our own sites or search for others on that too. It looks like the only way legacy games will make their way onto the nintendo.com page is if it is availabe on VC. That's a little disappointing in my opinion. However, they could have atleast had what the old nintendo.com had, but it is what it is.

NSider was certainly an advertising tool, but to the members (including the NOAs that were there), it was a community. The whole "thanks to the success of Wii and DS" message sometimes makes me feel like "Hey, we're doing great now, and thanks to that, we don't need forums anymore! Thanks for enjoying them while they were there though!" I'm hoping that new forums will arise eventually, but I don't have my hopes set to high. I have a feeling that even if forums were to return, it won't be the same format anyway.

I personally dislike the new look. It takes forever and a day to load on my computer (I don't even have dial-up, I have DSL ), and that's only with one tab open.

Not to mention, that the site itself is just one huge commercial for the Wii. I plan on getting one myself someday, but please for the sake of everyone, Nintendo -- stop pushing the advertisements in all of our faces...

It's almost enough for me to start hating them -- and I don't like to start hating something or someone. It's somewhat against my nature.

As for the overall feel of the site, it's sterile, and has almost a hospital like feel to it. There's no real soul left in the place -- it's like they surgically removed any soul that was in the place. It's like something out of the book 1984, a soulless company/corporation, that only is in it for the money.

It looks too much like their wii site, which had pretty much no purpose at all.

I never visited Nintendo.com anyway, but meh
