Metroid is awesome, the Prime series especially so.  My favorite is the first game, though I'm not sure why.  Probably just because you learn about Phazon for the first time in that game...you fight off the Pirates and their biological experiments, primarily, instead of some other enemy or species...and also because some of the bosses of that game were crazy hard to beat.

I'd love to see Prime 1 and 2 re-released on one disk, with Wii controls and the scanning/logbook system from Corruption.  Doubt that'll ever happen, it's been too soon since they were released...then again, it happened to Resident Evil 4, so I can dream.

I never fell in love with the Metroid franchise.  It's probably because the Prime Series was way too frightening for me.  I can never get use to first-person shooters because I always need to know what's behind me.  So, mix in a first-person view with dark areas and freaky noises, and I can barely last ten minutes without soiling my pants.  The other 2D games in the franchise were okay, but they weren't anything to shout about...

I must admit, though, Corruption looks amazing.  However, I don't think I could handle it

Actually, now that you mention it...

Corruption struck me as a much more linear game than the first two....(if you can call Metroid linear XD)...as a result, 90% of the time, you're fighting enemies that are right in front of you; they usually don't manage to get behind you unless you jump out into the middle of them, or if you happen to be stuck in one of a few slightly cramped rooms that are in the game, and can't seem to get a good angle to fight or run away.  Also, if you set the sensitivity of the wiimote to the max (the only way to play, in my opinion) you can actually spin around pretty quickly to see what might be behind you.  With the Gamecube controller, it's much slower to turn around.

As for dark rooms...I don't even think there WERE very many dark places in Corruption.  Most of the game is fairly well-lit.  Only two areas are somewhat darker than the rest of the game, and visiting one of them is entirely optional, if I remember correctly.

If you're leaning towards trying it, I'd definitely recommend renting it at least...I personally didn't enjoy Corruption as much as the first, but that's just me, it's still a great game.

For some reason that's why I love Prime. Normally I would wet my pants.

If my USB Connector would work, I would beat you all in Hunters.

Metroid is a great series and one of my favorites.

My personal favorite one is Super Metroid followed by Metroid Prime. If I was to pick a least favorite it would be Metroid Prime Hunters.

Metroid is great!
I've played all the metroid games, and my favorite one has to be Super Metroid!
That last battle!! awesome-ness!
though i do like the epic battles from the Prime series as well. Some of the Echoes bosses were very challenging too, like that Chykka larva and adult at the Dark Torvus Bog.
yeah, great games!

Metroid is my 'Zelda'.  Where everyone is always waiting for the new Zelda, I'm always wanting a new Metroid....preferrably of the classic/SNES-style type, like Prime 1 had tried to be(and Fusion and Zero Mission to some degree).

The side stuff, I'm not into so much, and it bothers me that the first-person perspective has kind of tipped people's idea of what Metroid is into more of the FPS-only region.  *shrug*

But even though I like it 'so much', I can't stand to play it too often just because I tend to take the same route, or things end up going the same way, and I wear it out too much.

I love, love, LOVE Metroid. It's my favorite franchise ever. I remember when I first got into Metroid ... it was when it came out for the NES. My father and I were watching TV, and a Metroid and Kid Icarus commercial came on. I looked to my dad, and was like, "Those games look cool!" The next day, when my father came home from work, he had both Metroid and Kid Icarus in his hands. That's when my Metroid craze started.

My favorite Metroid game, which is also my favorite game of all time, is Super Metroid. I'm a bigger fan of the 2D Metroid sidescrollers, but I love the Prime series as well. As my least favorite, I would probably have to pick Hunters, but I really love all the Metroid games. It's just that MPH's single player was a complete disappointment.

I can relate somewhat. Though I'm obsessed with Metroid, I actually waited a while before playing Metroid Prime. I also don't like FPS's because I'm always paranoid that something is going to pop out at me, and honestly, I'm just really bad with FPS controls. However, because this was Metroid, I had to cave in. I struggled a lot in the beginning of the game. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't turn around as fast as I wanted to, and that I couldn't see everything I wanted to see at the same time. But I eventually got used to it, and I am so glad I stuck through it. Metroid Prime is a fantastic game. It also does a really good job at focusing on the adventure and puzzle solving aspects of Metroid. It really doesn't feel like a FPS at all. But of course, since you aren't crazy about the franchise in general, it's probably still not worth your time adjusting to the game and giving MP a try.

I would say I became a Metroid fan a while after Metroid Prime was released. During this time, I really didn't know what to think of the series. The only exposure I had with the Metroid prior to Prime was with what the Super Smash Bros. games provided. Even when I played MP for the first time, it took me a while to just get used to the series' pacing and style. I'm just not a huge sci-fi fan of any kind, to be honest, and shooters aren't exactly my favorite gaming genre. After a while, I began to appreciate the strengths of the series. I'm not going to say that Metroid is my favorite gaming series. In fact, I don't think it's close to the top of my list. That being said, I own four games in the series now (five, if you count the unlockable Metroid game on Prime), and I've become fond of Samus' adventures.

I started Metroid with Prime, and when I say started I mean it in the strongest fashion.  Metroid Prime is to this day one of my all times faves.  It's right up there with Ocarina of Time, and if you know me, that's a HUGE deal.  I loved virtually everything about that game and while Corruption is pretty much everything about that game to it's apex, it's still hard to recreate that first time.

As for Metroid as a franchise, I really love it too.  Hunters has been the only hiccup for me.  I really appreciate it as being the Nintendo franchise with a pretty set chronology of events.  Seriously, we know what Samus is all about.  Link?  Mario?  Not so much.  You think you know em', but really, you don't.  Link is always a different guy and what's Mario's backstory? I used to think I knew until I found out his Brooklyn origins were nothing more than a NA addition.  Either way, I like NoA's story better, if you go by the Japanese he's just a guy who's there.  Virtually no background.  Hell, they can't even manage to connect games let alone Link's in the Zelda series.  I've given up on that, sometimes they pull it off, like OoT to MM or TWW, than they drop the ball with OoT to TP.  I'm glad Samus is the same gal in the same universe with no huge gaps of time missing, and no confusing region backstory mishaps.  Some other games are pretty solid, like Star Fox, but that series doesn't have much to it.  Nintendo hasn't been as kind to the Star Fox franchise IMO.

So yeah, I really love Metroid too!    I need to beat Corruption though, I'm still trying to find batteries to fix stuff.

I dunno how you guys could like that game. I dunno what is, the fact I could never beat the one for the snes as a kid, or the fact that I don't like fps's all too much on console, I dunno...but, I can't seem to like the Metroid series.

I've tried to like it too, I even bought Prime, gave the echoes demo a try, and even bough hunters...after that I decided I'm never going to like it so there's no point in trying. What I think I don't like is first, the whole "scanning" thing, it's annoying. Then there are those times when you don't know where the hell to go. You're just stranded in some odd place in the map and it's liek...wuddufu?

Eh, I really don't know what it is, I just don't like the game too much. To tell the truth, I didn't even like TP that much either, dunno...lots of nintendo games these days are rather...meh.

Samus is mysterious though. She's not out to save the world, just to get revenge and make a quick buck while at it. I mean she doesn't seem to have any life outside of killing things. She's like Batman. Both parents dead, she feels the need to get revenge. She's obviously highly intellegent.

I really like not knowing where to go.  In fact, it kills me that all recent Metroid games practically tell you outright EXACTLY where to go.  Fusion saved itself by having a few areas where the area you were supposed to go to was blocked off, and you somewhat have to use your own instincts to find an alternate route.  Even the original Metroid remake, "Metroid Zero Mission" on GBA....it not only brought in a map system(which was good), they added stupid statues that told you EXACTLY where to go, which killed any real sense of exploration, cornering it into the idea of finding the different missile/ammunition/health additions, instead of making it a challenge to know where you were and what to do.

I think that's why the first three games will always be some of my favorites.  Prime 1 and 3 are up there, sure, but I just love the fact that in the originals, you were plopped down on the planet with ONE mission, which ended up branching into several smaller, previously 'unknown' missions that you had to complete in order to bring you closer to that original mission.  I just really like that: "This is your mission; get down there, get it done, then get out", but in the process you end up doing so many different things, and without words, you even get a sense of a story attached to the environments and things(well, except for the original, which sometimes was a confusing mess of similar rooms, but it helped adding to the sense of getting lost).

I also liked the 'claustrophobic' sense that only Metroid II seems to deliver.  There was no map, and there was just always this sense of going DEEPER into an area you knew nothing about.  And once you finished that area, the acid/lava would sink, and you'd have to descend even further, feeling more and more away from home.  It was dark, it was confusing, and it would just JUMP a mutated Metroid at you out of nowhere, sometimes when you were low on health or missiles, and you'd just have to struggle to survive.  Personally, I think the Metroid series, particularly Super Metroid, almost kind of lent itself to creating the survival horror in a small way.
