Well I got another game and am giving my first impressions of it again.

Anyway, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is Square-Enix's first game for the Wii. It is basically an Arcade style RPG on Rails meaning it is divided up into individual missions which all take place on rails. Now this overall works rather well since it makes the game less confusing and all. But it really does hinder the game in places.

The gameplay is all first person which is not that bad at all. The controls are kinda a mixed blessing. On the positive side the combat is very fun because of them. But on the negative side movement in towns is rather chalanging at times.

This game uses just the Wii Remote. The combat is rather action oriented with you attacking multiple enimies and blocking attacks at the same time. To attack you just swing the Wii Remote in the way you want to attack Vertical slices, Horizontal slices, Diagonal slices, and thrust are all done with the corisponding motion of the Wii Remote and overall this works great except thrust are hit or miss at times. You can choses the focus point for your sword by pointing at a part and pressing A. For blocking you press and hold B and point at the part of the screen you wish to block. Special moves are done when you meter is full, once triggered you have a set time limit to do the motions indicated for the move. This adds to the emersion in the game and is really fun overall.

As good as the controls may be in combat in towns they are just annoying. This is due to the movement being done by the D-Pad. It is just slow and sluggish. The movment system is best used for the on rails mission than a 3D town. I wish they would have added Nunchuck support so you could use the analog stick for movement.

Overall I think it is a decent game and fun. While not perfect it does have some fun combat and a nice art style and visuals. If you are looking for something that is a little different then take this game into consideration even if it is only a rental.

Not a problem.

I figure these are helpful since it gives a general idea of what to expect from a person who is just like most gamers not very conserned with all the specifics of a game just the important parts.

If I had the income, I'd have gotten it.  It looked like an interesting game at the very least....too bad it didn't come out around launch like they had first figured, it would have been a great start.  Coming around Brawl's launch.....not so stellar.

Who knows, I might get it later if the price comes down or I find a cheaper used copy...*shrug*

I'm a bit late to be giving "first impressions," having finished the game already, but, I'll add my thoughts to it anyway.

I really enjoyed Dragon Quest Swords. Sure, it's no Dragon Warrior 1-4 or anything, but, it's definitely a very fun game. I generally don't like games in 1st-person view, but, I didn't mind it much here (although a 3rd-person view when walking, only switching to 1st-person for fighting, would've been much nicer. Ah well). It was shorter than I would've liked (although I do still have some extra stuff to do that I haven't done yet), seems like they even could've just made use of the existing areas having them give excuses to go through them a couple more times or something. Still, as I said, a very fun game. I really enjoyed the battle system, worked very well.
