I went into Boston yesterday to see The White Ribbon, it's directed by Michael Haneke who also did Funny Games, The Piano Teacher, and Cache. It's won a whole bunch of awards too.
It's about a small German village before WWI and the ritual punishment inflicted upon the children by the hypocrites (the Baron, the Doctor, the Pastor) who run the little village, and then there's a mysterious set of crimes that occur, and it's a very weird and upsetting film. If you're in for something like that, I'd recommend finding a place where it's playing and seeing it. It's not a perfect film, but it's one that WILL create a strong reaction whether it be positive or negative.
